I hear so many people struggle. I’ve known struggle myself, but sometimes it’s hard to look inward.
Between substance abuse, lashing out or quiet depression…..
It’s all just a way to numb ourselves from reality.
Running from the reality of the now.
Who wants to just sit and feel bad?
Why change when I can just continue the endless scroll of death on every device with a screen within sight? Endless media to distract yourself from your own life.
Well, you can’t change your situation if that’s all you do. Numb yourself beyond all reality. You’ll no longer recognize yourself. Your dreams and visions become a hazy forgotten cloud lost upon the horizon.
If this is true, there must be a way to pull yourself out…..right?
Well, that’s easier said than done.
How many people can have an epiphany and really start moving in the right direction? Start, continue and turn your new lifestyle into your vision.
Who has the maturity to hear their shortfalls from an outside source and truly listen without feeling insulted, violated and becoming enraged?
What if you’re so lost there is no vision left? Maybe there was no vision in the first place. One thing is for sure. You won’t get anything from where you’re at right now. Unless you develop the ability to reflect.
When is the right time? Should I wait for a Monday and start fresh? Maybe on New Year’s Day? Oh, what about my birthday? No, the right time is always right now. By the time you reach that important milestone, you may not want to change anymore.
Ever hear that the best diet starts tomorrow? It does if you don’t want change.
I’m not talking about drastic, instant, mind boggling change. Just feel. Think about where you are and how you got there. Was there a mistake? Can it be changed? Regardless, you have to analyze the now before you can change it. Some people need someone else’s perspective in order to really see what’s wrong. Maybe it isn’t that something is wrong. Rather, just not quite the right time or direction. There is a missing puzzle piece, but maybe you’re looking in the wrong box.
Identify the fear, inadequacy, idiosyncrasy, blindness, hate, or even intimidation. Then you can move forward. Loving the wrong things, toxic things, can also be a large factor. Elimination or limitation of distractions can play a major factor. It could be a combination of many things or just not quite the right timing. Once you realize being numb is just a defense mechanism and delay of gratification, then, and only then, will you be headed for self redemption.
Where do I start?
What makes you tick? What do you enjoy? Being numb prevents you from even realizing what you enjoy. Most won’t even know they’re doing it, but it is all too common.
Don’t fall into the social media trap of thinking everyone is doing wonderful around you because of their pictures and videos. Everyone is living their life for the first time and is just as clueless as you.
Find those who seem to have what you want and speak to them. Emulate their behaviors. Someone may have done your dream before. You can still develop characteristics, behaviors and skills well into adulthood.
Just know that being numb is not the end. Seek help. Seek courage. The right time is now and failure is just the beginning.
